Located in Siem Reap, Les Chantiers Ecoles is your one-stop destination to admire all things Cambodian. This is where you get to see various arts and crafts including wood carving, stone carving and traditional silk painting. The institution aims to not only provide training and livelihood options to the artisans but also to keep traditional handicraft techniques alive and growing. Las Chantiers Ecoles maintains two main sites in Cambodia. However, it also sells its products through several other outlets. One of its outlets is situated close to Pub Street and the Old Market. Here, you can explore the various artistic pursuits of Cambodian culture and watch the artisans immersed in their art. The main arts practiced here are wood, stone, silver plating, silk painting and lacquering.
These sites also have well-stocked showrooms where you can indulge in retail therapy and buy souvenirs for your family and friends. The site remains open from 7:30 in the morning till 5:30 in the evening daily. It also offers free guided tours in several languages including English, French, Chinese, Korean and Khmer. The organization was founded in 1992 and since then has imparted training to a large number of artisans. Here, you can find the finest type of silk produced in Cambodia. You can also visit Les Chantiers Ecoles’ Angkor Silk Farm, located in Puok district. The organization has won several awards for its exemplary work including Awards of Excellence for Handicrafts by UNESCO. The organization is also a member of Worlds Crafts Council.
