Ta Keo

Ta Keo is one of the hidden gems of Cambodia. Unlike other temples in the country, it is still off the beaten path and hence offers you a more relaxed time. Here you can explore the cultural and historical heritage in a relatively calm manner. The temple also provides a stunning view of its surroundings from its top. The ideal time to visit the temple is early in the morning, so as to avoid the midday heat. However, it will also provide you with the chance of witnessing the sunrise which gets a magical appeal here, amongst the ruins. The temple complex is still in the incomplete stage as its construction was never completed. The fable states that a lightening stuck the site during the construction period, leading to a halt of all the construction activities.
The temple complex’s main structure is in complete state. However, unlike other sites in Cambodia, Ta Keo is not heavily adorned, due to the abandonment of the work. Another distinct feature of Ta Keo is the color of the sandstone used. This structure is made from green color sandstone, giving it a unique look. Ta Keo was built in the 10th century under the reign of Jayavarman V and it is dedicated to Hindu god Shiva. The temple building has three levels, which are surrounded by galleries made of sandstone. There is a lingam housed in the central prang.
Siem Reap Full-Day Temple Tour by Bike provides an excellent way to get to know Ta Keo and its fascinating culture.
