Roluos Group

The Roluos Group of temples consists of Lolei, Preah Ko, Prei Monti and Bakong temples. The group is situated 11 kilometers southeast of Siem Reap Market. The cluster is spread over the area of 3 kilometer on the eastern edge of the Great Lake. The site traces its history back to the ninth century, making it one of the oldest sites belonging to Angkor period. This temple cluster offers a very distinct form of architecture. The monuments have tall brick towers on pedestals. The eastern side has a door in it while the other three sides have false doors to maintain the symmetry. The towers are made of bricks while carved areas such as lintels are made of sandstone. The temples were surrounded by a wall, which is in ruins now.
Roluos complex lets you enjoy various decorative features such as the depiction of the Hindu God Vishnu on his Garuda mount and a Kala with monster head. The carvings also show female figures with a lot of jewelry. The columns on the site are built in octagonal shape and are decorated with the carvings of leaves. You can reach the site following National Road 6. You should also make sure that you obtain temple passes from the main ticket office before embarking for the site.
On a visit you can also choose to explore the Prolung Khmer Pottery and Weaving Centre, where you can watch artisans weaving on traditional looms.
